Sharing Culture From Day One

While on their exchange programs, FLEX and YES students act as young ambassadors of their countries and cultures. Some students, like YES program finalist Damyan from Bulgaria, jump right into their new role!

Along with YES program student Chaima from Tunisia and FLEX program student Madalina from Moldova, Damyan participated in the Celebration of the Nations Festival in Athens, TN. Read on for his perspective about the event!

This past Saturday was one of the most exciting experiences I had since I came to the USA. I got to share my culture with a lot of people and I even got to know more about America too.

Everybody was so friendly and curious about my country and I even got to meet one of Tennessee’s senators, Mike Bell. It was wonderful and the best part is that I met the other exchange students in my area, shared experiences with them and had a great time.

I can't wait until the next event we do together and I want to thank my local coordinator Brittany Morrow for making this possible.

Thanks to Damyan for sharing his experience and to his LC, host family, and host community for coming out to support our students at the Celebration of the Nations! Great work, everyone!
