About HUSSEIN

Hussein has big goals for his YES exchange year, and he knows that what he learns in his host community will help him and his community later in life. Above all, he says, “I will to learn how I can become a good leader in my country and lead to changes.” He is especially excited to learn more about local government, leadership, and democratic values in the US, and he plans to apply his new knowledge to improving Tanzania as an alumnus. He is also excited to share his culture with his host family and learn about many cultures in the United States! Hussein hopes to learn as much in the American classroom as he does out of it by spending time with his host family and exploring his new home. He especially hopes to be able to visit “a zoo!” Hussein loves nature and would be thrilled to go on a hike with his new American family!

An important part of Hussein’s day is finding quiet time to pray and reflect on his schoolwork, which rejuvenates him to continue studying well and taking academics seriously. Hussein is a dedicated student, and his hard has been paying off! Hussein earned a certificate for being a top scoring student at his high school (he won a soccer medal, too!). Hussein is dedicated to his family and likes helping them out as much as he can.

Outside of school and family life, Hussein’s favorite things to do are swim and play soccer. He considers his friends to be extended family members—they go to school together, swim at the beach, and play soccer whenever they can! Hussein is also interested in environmental initiatives, and one of his most important projects has been organizing beach clean-ups in his hometown so that everyone can enjoy swimming there. Planting trees is another favorite environmental initiative of his, and Hussein is sure to look for similar volunteering opportunities in host community!
