About BATU

Batu from Türkiye is a team player in both sports and life! He’s enthusiastic about teamwork and cooperation, and he prides himself on being a good sport in all situations. “You must be kind” when working with others, he says, and he takes this philosophy to heart! Batu comes from a small, coastal town in Türkiye, where “everyone knows each other.” During his exchange year, he is eager to share about his tightknit hometown and Turkish culture while also learning about his host community! “The exchange program will introduce me to new cultures,” he says, and he’s especially excited “to experience the holidays in American culture!”

Academically, Batu is a talented student of coding and robotics. He participates in robotic coding competitions, and he also enjoys playing chess. His academic and extracurricular ambitions influence his career choice: Batu aspires to be an engineer one day, as “it is a profession with a bright future.” Outside of classes, you will often find him working hard at the gym or playing soccer with his friends. “Soccer is my favorite activity,” he says, “because I like to have a fun time with my friends.”

When Batu thinks about his exchange year, he knows his good attitude and resilient personality will help him go far! He considers himself a “positive, cheerful individual who solves things by thinking,” and he feels ready to take on life in his host community. He is eager to grow and improve himself as a YES student, and he also looks forward to trying new things. For example, he says,“I definitely want to try American football. It looks very fun!” As a YES student and young leader, Batu is excited for his exchange year and says, “I believe I will improve even more in the US” alongside his new host family and community!”
