About TEITIUA

Teitiua is passionate about hiking, swimming, volleyball, and other outdoor activities, and he enjoys staying active in his daily life. He also enjoys drama. Teitiua finds that his theater classes “bring joy and have a unique ability for immersing in different characters and narratives.” Teitiua comes from a close-knit family, and he especially enjoys celebrating the birthdays of his sisters and brother. His family makes an extra effort to spend Saturdays together.

Through his experiences in school, Teitiua has learned the value of being proactive and taking care of responsibilities efficiently. Outside of school, he likes to have fun with his friends when he’s not spending time with his family. During the rest of his free time, he also enjoys doing independent activities like reading and cooking up new recipes: “Whether I’m alone or with friends and family, all these activities bring me joy and fulfillment,” he says.

During his exchange year, Teitiua is very excited to live with a host family in the US. He’s looking forward to being an ambassador of his country, Kiribati. However, in addition to sharing his own background, he “hopes to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures, languages and perspectives” through his relationships with his host family! Teitiua also looks forward to making American friends, and he is eager to learn about US history. He is especially excited to see animals native to the US or other animals you might see in a zoo, like snakes, tigers, and lions, since many of these don’t exist in Kiribati. He would also love the chance to see dinosaur fossils at a science museum! Above all, Teitiua looks forward to meeting his host family and says that he “looks forward to creating lasting memories together!”
