About MATILDE

An outgoing and sociable person, Matilde enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She often goes on trips with her family, whether it is a visit to her grandma living in the countryside or an adventure to explore a new city or even a country. They also enjoy watching movies together. Matilde especially enjoys babysitting her youngest brother as it helps them bond. With her friends, Matile likes exploring the city and trying new things. She is proud of her friendships, with some of them lasting over a decade. They often go to coffee shops to have lively discussions over a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy going to museums, art exhibitions, and flea markets.

Matilde is a commendable student, and her teachers speak highly of her ability to learn and speak up. Beyond academics, Matilde is engaged in many extracurriculars. She loves dancing and is a member of the Latvian National Dance group. Matilde also enjoys acting in the school’s drama club. She is civically engaged and is a member of her school’s Student Council. Matilde does not shy away from participating in school events and taking on class projects. Matilde does not yet know who she wants to be when she grows up: “The future and all my set goals are just around the corner, so in this exchange program, I want to get a little closer and see which corner it really is,” she shares.

Matilde is eager to fulfill her longtime dream of living abroad, and “the thought of meeting new people, learning someone else's culture” excites her. “All we see in the Hollywood movies seems so fantastic: the country where all your dreams come true," Matilde shares her perceptions of the US. She is looking forward to experiencing life in the U.S. firsthand and seeing “how life there really is, what kids my age do, how they act.” At school, she wants to participate in the debate club and try out for the cheer team. Matile is also excited to try “a real American cheeseburger” but also share her country’s traditional dishes with you. She is looking forward to becoming a member of your family and learning from you, all while sharing her culture and traditions.
