About GULZADA

Gulzada from Azerbaijan describes herself as “a reliable, friendly, positive, and open-minded girl who is interested in getting to know new countries and people!” She is “fond of spending time with family” and “adores children.” In fact, she often helps to look after her 14 nieces and nephews! She says her well-kept secret is “I’m their favorite aunt,” and she takes pride in knowing that she plays an important role in their lives.

An active volunteer in her free time, Gulzada’s favorite community service project is working with an organization that promotes human rights and gender equality in Azerbaijan. “For two years I have been participating in the volunteer program now,” she says. Gulzada also volunteers supporting children who have physical disabilities by reading them fairy tales or other stories. “Seeing a smile on their face makes me happy,” she says, and keeps her feeling motivated to give back. Reading helps Gulzada in her own pursuits, as well. Gulzada is always looking for her next great read and says that one of her latest books taught her “the skill of taking ownership of difficult challenges in life.” This book has her thinking further on how to achieve her goals!

Overall, Gulzada has many pursuits in life! When speaking of her favorite activities, she says, “Yoga is the best activity for me.” It is more than a sport to her: “It’s like art!” By doing yoga and listening to meditation music, she says, “In body and mind, all problems and bad things go away.” Gulzada is very focused on “maintaining a positive mindset” and says that exercising at the gym “reduces stress and increases concentration levels.” This positive mindset will serve her well in the US for what she hopes will be a “great and unforgettable year!”
