Girts

About GIRTS

Girts grew up “near a green forest” in a small town in Latvia. He comes from a family of four, which consists of his “dad, mom, and little sister.” When they have free time together, Girts shares that he loves to play board games and sports with his family. Their favorite family hobbies also depend on the season! “In winter time, we go skating,” he adds, whereas, in the summer, “we like to go to different music concerts and theaters.”

In his extracurricular activities, Girts values both music and sports. In addition to listening to music, Girts enjoys playing saxophone, and he has attended classes at his local music school for many years. His main passion, though, lies in floorball. He says, “in the future, I plan to play in a floorball team!” Girts also loves trying all kinds of sports! Some of his favorites include “basketball, badminton, soccer, and bike riding,” and he’s looking forward to trying new sports during his exchange year! For Girts, sports are both a great physical activity and a fun way to make friends. His friends are “also sporty” like him, as well as “friendly” and “communicative,” as Girts describes them.

In his host community, Girts “would be interested to try basketball, soccer, ice hockey, or other sports activities after school.” He is also enthusiastic to see the “beautiful nature” in the US and “visit some cultural events to know better the American culture,” like local parks or festivals. Girts is a curious soul and has questions about all aspects of American life, including traditions, lifestyle, and school life. He can’t wait to get to know his host family and make new friends! Above all, he says, “I am ready to try new things.”
